Romans 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies dedicating all of yourselves, set apart as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational logical, intelligent act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world any longer with its superficial values and customs, but be transformed and progressively changed as you mature spiritually by the renewing of your mind focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes, so that you may prove for yourselves what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect in His plan and purpose for you.
The word transform in this scripture means make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of. It’s where we get the term metamorphosis from. We are all familiar with how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. It wraps itself up in a cocoon for a set time, then undergoes a transformation of a new creation as it breaks out of its’ protective covering. Though there is struggle in the process, without it, the caterpillar would not become the beautiful butterfly it was created to be.
As believers, we go through the same thing! There are many things we experience in life, both good and bad, spiritual and physical. These things shape us into who we are. It’s what we wrap ourselves up in for protection. But when the time comes, we have to breakthrough the cocoon we have around us to become what God wants us to be. Yes, it will be difficult at times, especially if it is a deep rooted habit God wants you to get rid of or a new habit He wants you to grow into. It may even be that God wants you to step out in an area you are uncomfortable with. The change could be as small as changing the way you eat or as big as making a career change or move to another city. Whatever the case may be, you will gain strength in the struggle! You will grow and become all that God has called you to be.
So, be encouraged! If you are going through a tough time right now or you just don’t understand what you are supposed to do next. Stay focused on the Word of God. Praise Him in the midst of your situation and stand firm. Seek His wisdom and His way, not what you think or what someone else tells you to do. Follow His leading because God’s got a plan and he’s making you into the creation He designed you to be!
